Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What you'll be doing
The Aboriginal Health Practitioner provides flexible, holistic and culturally sensitive antenatal and postnatal (up to 6 weeks) support to improve the birthing experiences and birthing outcomes experienced by Aboriginal women and their families in the Westmead Hospital catchment area
The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will provide a range of direct clinical services as defined by the agreed Scope of Practice and primary healthcare functions for the community in which they work

Essential Criteria
Qualification: Certificate IV in Aboriginal Health Care (Practice)
Registration: Current Registration with AHPRA as an Aboriginal health practitioner
Evidence of Diversity claim: Aboriginal /Torres Strait Islander

Selection Criteria * This is an identified Aboriginal Position. An applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and exemption is claimed under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW.
  • In this role, being a woman is also a genuine occupational qualification as authorised by Section 31 respectively of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW.
  • Certificate IV Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) with current registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and has or is willing to undertake credentialing for maternal health.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with multidisciplinary team and to liaise with other health professionals and external agencies to facilitate integrated care for Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, time management, and computer literacy including word processing and data entry skills.
  • Active involvement in the local Aboriginal community, with demonstrated understanding and commitment to improving the health issues impacting on Aboriginal women, families and babies
  • Ability to work unsupervised, use own initiative and take a lead role in initiating and carrying out community screening activities.
  • Current NSW Driver’s license and willingness to use for work purposes
