Job description

Birrigai's Indigenous Ranger role includes delivering sustainable land management and conservation programs as they relate to cultural and or natural resource management, as well garden and activity site maintenance across our large, unique site. The position also requires the ability to conduct scheduled cultural interpretative programs to visitors to Birrigai, as well as routine maintenance activities in and around the buildings. The Indigenous Ranger is required to work under limited direction to complete assigned tasks while also identifying additional works required on the site. Due to the semi-autonomous nature of the role, the successful applicant must be highly self-motivated, possess strong communication skills, and demonstrate a positive and proactive attitude in addressing any issues as they arise. The Indigenous Ranger role encompasses a wide variety of duties, often with competing or changing priorities, and the successful applicant will need to be adaptable and resourceful to ensure smooth running of the facility.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

  • Permanent Resident of Australia
  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Working with vulnerable people (WWVP) registration (act.gov.au)
  • Drivers Licence (C-class) is mandatory
  • Senior First Aid Certificate or willingness to complete
  • Current Hepatitis A and Tetanus (dT or dTpa) vaccinations or willingness to obtain
  • Basic Chainsaw certification or willingness to complete
  • Chemical Cert III or willingness to complete
  • Asbestos Awareness certification or willingness to complete

Highly desirable

  • Working at Heights certification
  • All-Terrain Vehicle certification (Side by Side vehicle)
  • Skid Steer certification

The following work safety capacity requirements apply to this role:

  • Ability to work in an outside environment under a range of conditions
  • Ability to perform tasks involving manual handling and use of a range of different hand operated equipment
  • Lifting up to 20 kg
  • Mobility over a range of different terrains including uneven and steep ground
