Job description


We are establishing an appointment pool for vacancies that arise within the next 12 months. We may offer permanent, fixed term, full time, part time or casual appointments, with the possibility of a further term and/or permanency.

About the College
North Metropolitan TAFE is the established State Government provider of vocational education and training for the northern Perth region. Our mission is to nurture participation, productivity and aspirations for our learners, our industry and our community.

About the role
This position provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with a range of services to assist them in their academic pursuits at North Metropolitan TAFE. This includes providing culturally appropriate support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students at the College, including information about services and support available through the Aboriginal Centre; assisting with student enquiries and providing assistance in the modification of courses and in arranging alternate assessments as require; and facilitating student study workshops at the Aboriginal Centre.

To be successful in this role you will ideally have experience in mentoring; have strong interpersonal and communication skills including proven experience working effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. You will have an understanding of the barriers that some Indigenous people face in training and employment and strategies to overcome them.

Other Conditions and Eligibility
During the life of the pool, candidates found suitable through this process may be offered appointment to similar & subsequent vacancies within the College, within other TAFE Colleges or across WA Government (subject to candidate permission being granted).

Eligibility for employment is subject to obtaining a satisfactory Department of Education Criminal Clearance. If this position involves contact with children, the recommended occupant will also be required to obtain a Working with Children (WWC) Card.

To be eligible for appointment applicants must have a working visa (for fixed term contract appointments) or permanent residency (for permanent appointments).
