Academic Skills Adviser Register (Casual), Indigenous Services

Directorate: Pro Vice-Chancellor (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Strategy)

Division:  Indigenous Services

Role Location: Online (all sites), Sunshine Coast (Sippy Downs), Moreton Bay, Caboolture or Fraser Coast campuses

Remuneration: Professional Staff, HEW Level 4 - $45.79 - $48.16 per hour plus employer superannuation

The Opportunity

We are seeking to recruit a pool of Academic Skills Advisers to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with one-on-one individualised tutoring services by suitably qualified tutors within the Indigenous Services team.

In this role, you will provide a range of Academic Skills support, including aiding our first-year students adapt to the academic requirements of university life.  

The role will be completed online/in person at one of our campuses or via phone.

Hours are not guaranteed as this is a student-driven program and hours will depend on students’ application, requirements requested and allocation by the ASA Program Officer.

This role is on an hour-by-hour basis. Students must apply for support at each study period.

In this role you will:

  • provide Academic Skills support to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students;
  • assist and aid our First Year Students, as they establish themselves at UniSC; and
  • provide general course (subject) specific tutoring to students.

You will possess:

Desirable

  • Experience tutoring (academic support) at Tertiary level and/or providing academic assistance to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Experience working with enabling program students such as the Tertiary Preparation Program (TPP) or assisting with particular Academic Skills development in commencing undergraduate students.
  • Completion of Australian First Nations Cultural Competency (CC) Training (where you haven’t undertaken a CC Training Program before that you have evidence of, or willingness to undertake Cultural Competency Training in-house by Indigenous Services.

General

  • Experience studying a major sequence of units in the subject area in which the adviser is providing assistance.
  • Applicants are required to have a relevant university degree or be studying at least two academic years ahead of the student requiring tuition and have evidence of a strong academic performance.
