Job description

Yalari is a not-for-profit organisation that offers quality, secondary education scholarships at leading Australian boarding schools for Indigenous children from regional, rural and remote communities.

The Academic Support Coordinator is primarily responsible for ensuring our Yalari scholarship students have the tools and support required to achieve their academic best. You will have the responsibility of ensuring Yalari students receive appropriate Academic Support to achieve their academic goals through working with tutors, volunteers, Yalari Student Support Officers and key staff at our partner schools.

Based at the Yalari Head Office in Helensvale on the Gold Coast you will be responsible for the administration of the Yalari Academic Support program. The major accountabilities of the role are as follows. A full position description is available on request.

  • Development, implementation and maintenance of a student Academic Support program tailored to individual students, keeping track of each scholarship student’s academic performance and progress and providing appropriate follow up where necessary.
  • Collaborate with partner schools and families in the development and implementation of Personalised Learning Pathways (PLP’s) for our students.
  • Work with Yalari partner school staff to compliment the support students receive at their partner school through the organisation of additional support through academic tutoring.
  • Maintain regular contact with volunteer tutors to monitor, provide support and confirm positive engagement with students.
  • Collect, file and analyse student academic and tutoring reports. This includes relevant NAPLAN and ATAR results.
  • Ensure work practices are carried out as per Yalari’s quality systems of administration and compliance for student academic coordination providing feedback for continuous improvement where required.
  • Ensure students receive culturally appropriate Academic Support.
  • Monitoring and proofreading of biannual student sponsor updates for all students.

Please note: This position may involve occasional travel to partner schools. As part of the wider Student Support Team you may be requested to assist in student development activities including camps and other activities that are held over weekends. All student support staff are expected to attend the annual orientation camp held over 5 days in January each year.

Appointment to the position is subject to passing a mandatory working with children check and national police check. You are also required to hold an open driver’s licence.

This full-time role is required to be conducted on-site at our Helensvale headquarters. Applications to work remotely will not be accepted.
