Job Description

VisAbility's Community Activity Centre team pride themselves on delivering professional therapeutic activities to clients. This includes working with the Program Manager on developing activities tat are contemporary, risk adverse and sustainable.

Our purpose is to give everyone living with vision loss the support and confidence they need to thrive within the community

Duties include, but are not limited to
  • Provide effective instructions and support to clients to facilitate skill development and participation in their chosen project. Ensure woodwork activities are:
  • Appropriate, safe and meet client goals
  • Tailored for groups and for individual participants
  • Appropriate particularly for participants who have no or low vision
  • Maintain a safe and risk free area by:
  • Maintaining equipment in a safe working order and report any worn or unsafe tools or machinery to the manager
  • Maintaining safety data sheets of all chemicals
  • Storing hazardous chemicals safely
  • Reporting any difficulties or concerns which may impact on the safe and effective running of the centre and community based program on a day to day basis
  • Working with manager to ensure that the woodwork areas meet the required OSH standards.
  • Contribute to the activities of Perron Place, such as the School Holiday Programme.
  • Contribute towards the planning and development of centre and community based programs.
  • Other tasks as directed by management
Desired Skills and Experience

Essential:
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a trade industry (woodwork, metal work, men's shed etc.).
  • Experience in providing support to people with a disability, particularly within a group context.
  • Awareness of the impact of disability and the loss of vision of the individual.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Is flexible, resourceful and effective in time management.
  • Ability to demonstrate a personal commitment to our vision, values and our promise.
  • Experience in Microsoft word, email and client database.
  • Valid National Police Clearance, NDIS Worker Screening Check and be fully vaccinated for (COVID-19) and Influenza
Desirable
  • A trade qualification or equivalent qualification in woodwork or metal work.
  • Experience in a trade industry (woodwork, metal work, men's shed etc.).
  • C” class drivers licence.
