About us 

Caretakers Cottage provides both Crisis Accommodation to homeless young people and Early Intervention support to young people at risk of homelessness. We have been providing crisis accommodation and support to young people and their families within the Eastern Suburbs and Inner City for 40 years. Our website is www.caretakers.org.au. 

 Our Team

A small multidisciplinary team of Caseworkers and Youth Workers work collaboratively to support young people from the ages of 13-17.  There is a strong emphasis on enabling restoration to the family home. 

The Role

The Outreach Caseworker will primarily provide case management to local young people who are at risk of homelessness aged 13-15 who are still at home.  There is a high degree of face-to-face outreach support and family intervention within the home.   The Caseworker may also be required to support young people who are provided respite at the Crisis Refuge.  The role is  38 hours per week, during standard 9-5pm business hours.  

Essential Criteria 

  • Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Youth Work or  related other
  • Experience with young people and families who exhibit complex needs is desirable
  • Experience in case management (minimum two years)
  • Knowledge of the issues young people face in relation to homelessness
  • Excellent level of written and verbal communication skills
  • High level time management skills and an ability to work in a busy environment
  • Leadership and the ability to self manage
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Appropriate work visa 
  • WWCC
  • First Aid Certificate 
  • National Police Certificate 
  • Must be fully vaccinated or hold an exemption 
  • Drivers license is essential 

 Required Duties 

  • Conducting assessments, risk analysis and providing early intervention as appropriate
  • Working closely with young people to develop case plans that include ongoing support, review, and follow up
  • Working collaboratively with external services
  • Motivating and empowering young people to achieve goals
  • Undertaking home visits to support young people and their family 
  • Referring to external or specialist services
  • Undertaking some community development
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date client records 
  • Adhering to organisational policies and procedures 
  • Maintaining professionalism and strong boundaries
