Job description

The role  
In this role, you will employ advanced skills to accurately code complex cases using ICD-10-AM and ACHI 12th Edition for all allocated specialty discharges within designated times. As part of the coding process, you will complete Queensland Cancer Registry notifications and collect/flag clinical indicator and audit data. Your responsibilities will include abstracting relevant information from patient records (both electronic and paper) and all available clinical information systems. You will also utilize appropriate resources and applications, liaising with team members and clinicians to clarify information as required.

Additionally, you may be asked to conduct quality activities for the Clinical Coding Service through auditing and clinician liaison to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of inpatient morbidity data. This role requires adherence to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies, and procedures to ensure high-quality, safe services and workplaces. Your ability to manage and analyse data, coupled with your strong attention to detail, will be critical to the success of this role.

The successful person
To excel in this role, you must have proof of qualification in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-AM) ACHI, and ACS with the appropriate registration authority, with either a Diploma in Clinical Coding or a relevant qualification such as a Certificate in Clinical Classification. You should also haveextensive coding experience across a range of DRGs within a tertiary healthcare facility, with a minimum of four years of full-time coding experience.

While not mandatory, it would be advantageous to have completed the intermediate or advanced ICD-10-AM, ACHI, and ACS Clinical Coding courses (or equivalents), a Certificate of Clinical Coding Audit, or hold a university degree in Health Information Management.

The State Health Information Management (HIM) and Clinical Coding Support Team provide strategic consultancy advice, support, guidance and mentoring to Hospital and Health Service executive, finance and health information management and clinical coding teams in relation to activity data as it pertains to healthcare funding. This includes health information data flows, activity data standards, clinical coding, coding audit, optimisation opportunities and workflow improvement.

This role reports directly to the State Professional Lead Clinical Coding.
