Job description

An accredited fixed term/part-time 0.5FTE 12-month position commencing April 2024 exists for an Advanced Trainee in Palliative Medicine to work with our Medical Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care Teams at the Mater.

The Mater Hospital, North Sydney has a busy cancer treatment program focused on Breast Cancer and Melanoma, and is co-located with the Melanoma Institute of Australia. A busy Renal Unit and Cardiology Service also have patients requiring supportive care.

The role comprises a mix of inpatient care for oncology and haematology patients (with support from a Medical Oncology AT and CMO's), inpatient palliative care consults (including renal and general medicine patients), and oncology outpatient clinics. The rotation is accredited by the RACP for Palliative Care (Cancer Services).

Teaching is available through the SIPM (Sydney Institute of Palliative Medicine) Program. Research and education opportunities are plentiful.

Essential Requirements:

  • AHPRA registration, or current eligibility for AHPRA Registration
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Experience in Palliative Medicine, Medical Oncology or related specialty
  • Minimum 4 years post-graduation
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Organisational ability - both personal organisation and ability to supervise others.
  • Demonstrated compassion and caring attitude, modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to other staff
  • Clear understanding of, and personal commitment to, the Mission and Values of the Mater Hospital and St Vincent's Health Australia

Desirable criteria

  • Registration with RACP as an advanced trainee in medical oncology and/or Palliative Medicine (RACP, AChPM), although other accredited trainees (eg other specialities, general practice) may apply
  • Previous training in Palliative Medicine, oncology (medical or radiation), or other relevant specialty
  • Experience in medical research, teaching and quality assurance
  • Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Working towards post-graduate qualifications in Palliative Medicine, Medical Oncology or related specialty
  • Current Driver's Licence

Remuneration

This is under the EBA (which aligns to the NSW award rates) and that is in line with years of service, not seniority.
