About the OPPORTUNITY
We have new opportunities for Aerospace Structures and Aerospace Flight Systems Engineers to join our team based in Williamtown NSW. Working from other BAE Systems sites and remote locations will also be considered. This role is part of the engineering capability that supports current and future military aircraft including Hawk, F-35, Loyal Wingman and related systems. We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, including a 9 day fortnight.
The engineering activities may include tasks in any of the engineering lifecycle phases to support bids, new design solutions, integration of new equipment or modifications and supporting in service operational aircraft.
For the Flight Systems Engineer role, the successful candidate will:
- Conduct FLIGHT SYSTEMS related engineering dispositions including Technical Information Review (TIR) and determining the necessary design actions
- Contribute to the upgrades and embodiment across a number of general aircraft FLIGHT SYSTEMS including flying controls, hydraulics, landing gear, environmental control, ejection and propulsion
- Assist in the monitoring, assessment and disposition of matters that impact general FLIGHT SYSTEMS and conduct relevant investigations
- Exercise engineering authority as required within the scope of the engineering authorisation allocated
- Ensure any general FLIGHT SYSTEMS related issues affecting airworthiness and availability, are addressed in a timely manner
- Conduct structural related engineering dispositions including Technical Information Review (TIR) including determining the necessary action
- Contribute to the embodiment of structural design changes in accordance with the approved plans and procedures under the relevant framework
- Assist in the monitoring, assessment and disposition of matters that impact airframe structural integrity such as Fatigue and Environmental damage
- Exercise engineering authority as required within the scope of the engineering authorisation allocated
- Ensure any airframe structure related issues affecting airworthiness and availability are addressed in a timely manner
Flight Systems Engineer
- Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent post graduate certificate with work experience
- Relevant experience in design development and review activities, within a quality framework
- Aviation engineering background with particular knowledge of Flight Systems such as landing gear, hydraulics, propulsion systems, flight controls, environmental conditioning systems, oxygen generation and life support systems (essential)
- Relevant experience in aircraft regulated framework (e.g. DASA)
- Experience with relevant engineering tools to support design
- Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Aerospace or Aeronautical
- Significant proven experience in aircraft structural design and exposure to most lifecycle phases (essential)
- Demonstrated airframe design experience including generation and review of design documents, analysis and fatigue/environment damage assessments (essential)
- An appreciation of ASI concepts and modelling
- Experience in structural design tools (e.g. NASTRAN, PATRAN, Creo)
- Broad knowledge of basic military aircraft airframe and structural systems
- Experience with airworthiness (civil/military) regulations and compliance
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
