About Us

Fortescue is both a proud West Australian company and a global green solutions business. We are recognised for our culture, innovation and industry-leading development of infrastructure, mining assets and green energy initiatives.

Our Opportunity

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people

Roster: Monday to Friday

Fortescue is transforming its business through Artificial Intelligence (AI), bringing together the opportunities in advanced technologies and our unique culture to revolutionise the way we operate. The key mission of this role is to lead the strategic identification, development, delivery, and long-term success of AI enabled products, aligned to the objectives and value drivers for the domain.

The AI Lead scope for this domain covers the full depth and breadth of the Heritage and Approvals lifecycle at Fortescue, inclusive of both the metals and energy business areas.

The Domain Lead will manage the team members within the domain, accountable for overall value delivery. This includes translating the evolving needs of the domain into a prioritised product roadmap, balancing funding and resourcing to effectively deliver both products and capabilities, and driving the adoption and extension of developed products. The right candidate will bring a combination of strong domain expertise, leadership skill, and ideally have experience and capabilities in AI or similar technology development fields.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the domain product roadmap in collaboration with domain leaders, experts, and the Integrated Technology team.
  • Ensure value delivery and alignment with Fortescue’s AI strategy and the objectives of the domain.
  • Manage and evolve the domain product roadmap based on learnings and developing strategic priorities.
  • Develop content for Executive and Board level reporting and decision-making.
  • Set and track objectives and key results for the domain and represent the domain in planning cadences and processes. Promote stretch targets.
  • Build and manage domain delivery teams, combining appropriate skills from across the business and embedding capability in the domain where appropriate.
  • Drive solution adoption, ensuring teams have appropriate skills for release management, process re-design and user training.
  • Ensure all products have a clear strategy and feature roadmap, value models and delivery approach covering operation, support, maintenance, and enhancement.
  • Engage with other domain leads and Integrated Technology to identify opportunities to integrate and align roadmaps, including opportunities across infrastructure, data, product, or feature levels.
  • Engage with other domain leads and Integrated Technology to foster shared product practice and methodology development, contributing to scalable growth.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5-10 years of experience in the domain with strong general knowledge and areas of deeper expertise.
  • Tertiary-level qualification/s relating to the domain and/or the technology field.
  • 5+ years of experience in product development (business or IT) and end-to-end ownership of AI/technology enabled solutions is highly desirable.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and ability to communicate effectively across multiple business areas (e.g., operations, technology).
  • Experience with modern product practices such as human centred design, agile product development, lean portfolio management, devops methods, OKR methodologies and other product development tools.
  • Familiarity with the resources sector including mining and energy.
  • Domain leads ideally sit at the intersection of AI, leadership, and domain expertise. Preference however is given to business domain knowledge and leadership ability. Candidates with less technology experience are encouraged to apply, with the understanding that technology product development skills will need to be developed over time.
