Hamilton Island Airport is the main air hub for the Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef. It facilitates direct flights daily from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane operated by Jetstar, Virgin Australia and Qantas. Private flights and charters also fly into Hamilton Island Airport, along with locally operated helicopters, light planes and seaplanes.
Your job as a Screening Officer is to be responsible for the delivery of high quality, customer-focused security services while creating safe and memorable travel experiences for passengers and visitors transiting through our airport. Keeping people and property safe is fundamental to ensure the aviation safety and security integrity of the airport, aircraft and travellers.

Your Role
- Responsible for consistent and standard security practices ensuring passengers and their possessions are checked and cleared prior to departure.
- Control access to security sensitive areas, undertaking physical searches, and identifying weapons, explosives and prohibited items.
- Efficiently co-ordinate the flow of passengers through security screening.
- Demonstrate effective communication and sound decision-making skills.
- Providing consistent high quality customer service.
- Keeping yourself to a high level of personal grooming to the company standard.
You will have:
- Ability to be approved for an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
- Must have taken and passed the Aviation Accreditation Test
- Experience in a highly regulated environment
- Be friendly and be able to deal with passengers in a calm manner
At least one of the following qualifications:
- Currently employed as a Screening Officer with a Certificate II in Security Operations OR
- Certificate II in Transport Security Protection (AVI20118)
You will also:
- Manage the flow of items for screening by X-ray screening equipment
- Screen articles by interpreting X-ray images
- Operate body scanner
- Conduct security screening using walk-through metal detection equipment
- Conduct security screening using hand-held metal detectors
- Conduct frisk search of persons
- Conduct screening using explosive trace detection
- Apply awareness of dangerous goods and hazards substances in the transport security environment
- Identify and handle weapons, explosives and prohibited items
- Work effectively in a transport security environment
- Control access to and exit from a security sensitive area
- Establish and maintain a sterile sensitive area
- Manage disruptive behaviour and unlawful interference within the transport security environment
About You
- Certificate II in Transport Security Protection (AVI20118) OR
- Current Screening Officer employed with Certificate II in Security Operations before January 2022
- Current Dangerous Goods Qualification
- Ability to be approved for an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) (Essential)
- Valid driver licence
- Previous experience in this role preferred
