Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as the All AbilitiesSport & Recreation Program Coordinator. The primary purpose of the All Abilities Sport & Rec Coordinator is to operate a Regional Hub to increase the skills, knowledge and opportunities for Indigenous people with a disability (“PWD”) to engage in sport and Recreation Programs in the East Kimberley (“Project”). The Program Coordinator will support all aspects of the management and delivery of the Project.

  • Sound written and verbal communication, including the ability to represent Job Pathways/Wayfinder at meetings, events and functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Consulting with key stakeholders and establishing an Advisory Group (which will comprise of PWD and representatives from Sporting Bodies, NDIS Service Providers, Community Organisations and Disability Advocates).
  • Establishing a Hub in Kununurra (including obtaining and fitting out accessible premises and acquiring assets and equipment).
  • Collecting baseline data on PWD currently participating and those who are interested.
  • Developing a program for the delivery of the Project with both accessible events PWD can participate in and PWD exclusive activities (including finalisation of a Project Activity Plan to be submitted to the Department of Social Services).
  • Delivering the program across the East Kimberley (including teaming up with existing sport and recreation providers to build a greater number of inclusive programs for PWD).
  • Establishing an evaluation framework for the Project (together with the CEO and an external body) and evaluating the Project against that framework. This will be key to monitoring progress, outcomes and will support provision of reports against established timelines.
  • Regularly reporting on progress and financials to the Department of Social Services.
  • Ensuring the Project is delivered in compliance with the relevant Department of Social Services policies, guidelines and protocols.

Mandatory Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social Sciences, Welfare, Community/Allied Health or similar qualifications.
  • Well-developed time management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to consult, negotiate and liaise effectively with a diverse range of people.
  • Understanding of, and experience in, policy development, project management and managing budgets.
  • Proven ability to prepare reports, grant applications and other correspondence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with PWD and people marginalized by issues including homelessness, mental health and alcohol and other drugs.
  • Previous experience working with Indigenous Australians and organisations and a demonstrated understanding of social, economic and environmental factors impacting on local (rural and remote) communities.

Other Requirements:

  • A current C Class motor vehicle licence.
  • A current Working With Childrens Check
  • Western Australian NDIS Workers Screening Clearance
  • Ability to engage in regular travel (by road and air) inclusive of short stays away from home.
