Gidgee Healing (‘Gidgee’) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service, representing the health needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the Northwest, and Lower Gulf regions of Queensland. We provide a broad range of primary health care and aged care services, and we are now the largest Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service provider by land area in Queensland. Purpose
To assist with the delivery of high-quality allied health and primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Mount Isa community.
Functional Accountabilities
Functional accountabilities of this role include:
- Assist with program and service provision including:
- Delivering culturally appropriate allied health and primary health care services that focus on assessment, examination, and case treatment; and
- Contributing to the development of models of holistic health, including continuity of care.
- Clinic Operations.
- Ensure effective screening, service delivery and administration practices are delivered in accordance with the Model of Care.
Selection Criteria
- A minimum Certificate III (ideally a Certificate IV) in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice).
- Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health services and the issues facing these organisations.
- Understanding of and adherence to the principles of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health services, including a high-level awareness of health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in rural and remote locations
- An understanding of Allied Health Services in particular, and how ‘whole-of-life’ and social circumstances can impact on health, wellbeing, and opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to take direction, determine priorities and manage workloads to meet agreed timelines and objectives.
- Ability to demonstrate good clinical skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of primary health care.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of professionals and the public, as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to liaise and work with local communities and relevant Government and non-Government organizations.
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to communicate and empathise with Aboriginal people.
- Computer literacy, including use of client record systems, electronic communication, and word processing.
Other Requirements
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) – essential.
- Satisfactory police check – no serious Criminal/Court record.
- Current Blue Card (working with children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as required, including the requirement to travel, work and stay overnight for up to several days at a time in remote areas.
- Willingness to travel by road and small plane.
