primary requirements

Must have the appropriate qualifications.
Must be able to receive your Qualified Medical Practitioner registration from the Medical Council of New Zealand.
Ideally, able to receive your Anaesthetics Vocational Registration in Australia or at least your provisional registration.
Must have at least five or more years relevant experience.
Intensive care experience desired.
Trauma experience desired.
Able to develop and maintain audit systems.
Must be able to work in a culturally appropriate manner and have a working knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi.
Previous experience working in a multi disciplinary team desired.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Good computer skills.
Good problem solving skills.
Ability to prioritise activities.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to manage stress.
Sense of humour.
Able and willing to commit at least two years to our client.

primary duties
Anaesthetist will share responsibility with his/her colleagues to ensure an efficient and effective quality anaesthetic service is provided.
Meet the standards of the Australian and NZ College of Anaesthetists.
Undertake pre operative clinics, theatre lists, CCU care, pre and post op assessment and care, and visits as appropriate, epidurals for obstetric patients and on call duties as rostered.
If the Anaesthetist is unable to perform his/her scheduled or rostered duties at any time he/she shall advise the HOD Anaesthetics as soon as possible
Be available to start OT sessions on time 95% of the time.
Conduct pre and postoperative visits where appropriate.
Provides services in accordance with policies and protocols.
Would be expected to manage and prioritise competing demands such as the need to fit in emergency cases into planned lists if required.
Practices in a culturally safe manner.
Participates in the ongoing development of clinical pathways.

Provides advice of pain management to other health professionals.
Provides an acute pain management service on an as required basis or as able basis
Comprehensive and accurate medical records with respect to anaesthesia will be maintained for all patients with whom the Anaesthetist is involved and that records comply with the Privacy Act 1992.
A team approach shall be utilised for multiple injured trauma patients, particularly those in CCU.
Supervise the activities of Anaesthetic technicians, reviews and assess learning/education requirements of the Anaesthetic technicians.

This is a physician who can provide medical care to patients in a wide variety of (usually acute) situations. This includes a preoperative evaluation, consultation with the surgical team, creation of a plan for the anaesthesia tailored to each individual patient, airway management, intraoperative life support and provision of pain control, intraoperative diagnostic stabilisation, and proper post-operative management of patients.
