About the Role
The Application Security Specialist provides expert advice on Application Security to developers, promoting best practices and fostering a secure coding community within the University. They manage the static code analysis platform, drive application remediation efforts, and advocate for University-wide adoption of secure patterns and controls such as SSO and WAF.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Provide expert guidance and advice to developers on Application Security concepts and best practices, ensuring the deployment of secure software throughout the University
  • Actively promote and cultivate a culture of secure coding practices among developers, encouraging adherence to industry standards and security guidelines
  • Manage and oversee the operations of the code analysis platform, ensuring its effectiveness in identifying security vulnerabilities and compliance issues in applications prior to deployment
  • Produce detailed reports on project security postures via the code analysis platform, pinpointing vulnerabilities and leading remediation efforts. This entails working with development teams, faculties, affiliates, and senior management to ensure widespread understanding and adherence to secure coding practices and application development standards. This role is crucial in promoting a culture of security awareness and compliance throughout the University
Who we are looking for
You will have excellent communication skills to convey complex security concepts and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. You should have experience managing code analysis platforms to identify vulnerabilities and compliance issues and be adept at leading application remediation efforts and managing projects for timely resolution. Additionally, you'll need experience implementing security controls in large-scale environments and a collaborative approach to work closely with development teams and stakeholders to achieve security objectives.
You will also have:
  • Tertiary qualifications in computer science, information technology or a related field or equivalent professional experience in cybersecurity
  • Experience as a developer and demonstrated in-depth knowledge and expertise in Application Security concepts, practices, and tools, OWASP, with a track record of successfully improving Application Security
