What is Panel Beating?
Panel beating is the process of repairing and restoring damaged vehicle exterior body panels through techniques like metal straightening, welding, filling, sanding, priming, painting, rust repair, and frame alignment, performed by skilled auto body technicians to bring the vehicle back to its original shape and appearance while ensuring structural integrity and safety.
What you will learn:
As an Apprentice Panel Beater at Wales Bus Repairs, you will learn:
- Damage Assessment: Thoroughly inspecting damaged Heavy Vehicles to assess the extent of panel damage, identifying areas that require repair, replacement, or restoration.
- Metal Shaping and Repair: Using specialized tools such as hydraulic presses, hammers, and dollies to reshape and repair damaged metal panels, ensuring they regain their original contours.
- Welding and Fabrication: Expertly performing welding tasks to repair or replace severely damaged sections of heavy vehicle panels, fabricating new metal pieces as needed to ensure structural integrity.
- Body Filler Application: Applying body filler to repair minor dents, dings, and imperfections on heavy vehicle panels, meticulously sanding the filler to create a smooth and even surface.
- Surface Preparation: Preparing repaired panels for paint by sanding, cleaning, and applying appropriate primers to promote adhesion and prevent corrosion.
