Job description

  • $85,607 - $97,790 (plus Super)
  • Campbell Park - ACT, Brisbane - QLD
The Role
This is an excellent opportunity to influence industry and business development as a Project Manager in Defence.

In this exciting role you will build strong relationships with international and industry partners and will contribute to the expansion of a domestic industrial base whilst contributing to the development of innovative technologies in relation to Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance.

It’s an exciting environment where no two days are the same, but on a typical day as an APS 6 Project Manager you will:
  • Manage the preparation of timely and high quality reports and documentation relating to project management within Defence.
  • Coordinate project activities applying project management practices and methodologies, supporting strategic planning and governance functions.
  • Advocate and negotiate on behalf of the organisation to achieve project management outcomes.
  • Analyse and interpret project performance against agreed plans and recommend strategies to achieve project outcomes.
  • Use your strong research and presentation skills to manage high-profile, complex projects.
About our Team
The Project Manager positions are located within the Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Enterprise Task Force, within the Joint Capabilities Group (JCG).

The Australian Government is committed to the acceleration of the manufacturing of guided weapons in Australia.

Working in the GWEO Taskforce is fast paced, exciting and directly supports Defence’s mission to defend Australia and its National Interests.

The multi-billion dollar GWEO program is a complex undertaking requiring consideration of many elements including research and development; test and evaluation; manufacturing; maintenance, repair, and overhaul; storage and distribution; disposal; and education and training. You will work in a diverse team of ADF, APS and Industry partners, analysing, designing and implementing innovative solutions to deliver Government's Guided Weapons production priority.

The team encourages flexible, hybrid working arrangements with the opportunity to work from home. Many of the team’s workforce mix their working week from both the office and at home. Generous leave entitlements, Christmas Stand-down Periods, development and training opportunities are on offer. There are multiple roles on offer, primarily in Canberra. The task force will continue to expand its workforce and offer opportunities via merit pools in the coming months.

Our Ideal Candidate
You will play an important role as a member of a team focused on achieving excellence across a variety of areas in high-profile, very complex projects. This will be attributed by your high standards, pursuing tasks to completion, and attention to detail.

Our ideal candidate will have:
  • A 'can-do' attitude and an ability to maintain a positive attitude towards complex problems, while using sound judgment and understanding the impacts and risks to strategic outcomes.
  • Outstanding time management and organisational skills, while remaining resilient and adaptable to changing plans and priorities. You will be able to work effectively independently and within a team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and be comfortable engaging and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders while building and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Strong analytical, research skills and an ability to interpret and apply legislation in defining business requirements.
Prior experience in project management and an understanding of project management processes and methodologies will be highly regarded, but is not required.
