Job description

The Summer Clerk Program will give current law students in their penultimate year of study the opportunity to work in an in-house Commonwealth Government legal practice. Under the direction of government lawyers, they will gain exposure to an in-house legal practice and acquire practical workplace experience.

Duties 

  • Performing legal and factual research in relation to requests for legal advice
  • Drafting and summarising legal documents, checking for accuracy
  • Creation and maintenance of matters or other files
  • Preparing correspondence, written reports and performing records research
  • Document management including assisting in discovery processes and production of records
  • Monitoring of legal request mail inboxes
  • Provision of general administrative support

Eligibility 

  • Applicants must be an Australian citizen to apply.
  • Must be a current student in the penultimate year of study in a Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent) degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution.

Notes We will offer successful candidates with a full-time work opportunity with Legal Services for an agreed period within November 2022 until February 2023.

A merit pool will be established that may be used to fill similar positions within the next 18 months.

Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
