The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) is seeking TribunalOfficers to work in our Melbourne Registry.

We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible, and reliable peoplewith a “can do” attitude and the ability to workefficiently and effectively in a fast-paced work environment.

Our Tribunal Officer roles are flexible and are broadlyresponsible for providing support for the operations of theTribunal. Tribunal Officers may work across any division of the AATand perform a range of functions.

Depending on where you’re needed, in these roles youmay:

  • provide great client service and administrative support to internal and external stakeholders
  • efficiently manage cases to support hearings or alternate dispute resolution practices
  • provide direct case management, case analysis and administrative support to Tribunal Members and/or Conference Registrars
  • analyse applications to assess appropriate review pathways
  • assess and determine requests from clients for fee reductions and access to case documents
  • review case files to identify issues and to prepare case-related information and correspondence

The annual salary for the position is from $71,223 to $77,331plus 15.4% superannuation. Our newly approved Enterprise Agreementwill deliver a 4% pay increase from 14 March 2024.

Position Eligibility Requirements

The AAT requires Australian citizenship as a condition ofengagement.

All employees are required to undertake an Australian FederalPolice Check and a health assessment.

About the AAT:

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) plays a crucial rolein the Australian legal landscape, providing a process forindividuals and organisations to seek an independent review ofdecisions made under a wide range of Commonwealth laws.

The AAT can take a fresh look at decisions made by AustralianGovernment ministers, departments and agencies – and, inlimited circumstances, decisions made by state government andnon-government bodies. It also can review decisions made underNorfolk Island laws.

The AAT comprises members, the independent statutory appointeeswho hear review applications, and staff, who provide services tosupport applicants and the review process, as well as theTribunal’s daily operations.

The AAT will be transitioning to a new merits review body, to becalled the Administrative Review Tribunal, in 2024.
