APS5/6 Finance Officer

This federal government department performs a critical function for Australia nationally and internationally. Their portfolio is high profile, and the work is complex and engaging.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant or Finance Officer to get their foot in the door to the federal government. Working with a supportive Director and Assistant Director to further develop and grow your career in the APS.

It’s a non-ongoing 6–18 month contract with a view to permanency.

Working in a small team within a large federal department, you will be part of the internal budget team. Working in a diverse organisation, you will gain experience and exposure across the business. Strong performers will be rewarded with acting opportunities and promotions.

The position works within a small team with supervision from the Assistant Director of Internal Budgets and Reporting. The key duties include:

• Perform duties associated with the internal budget management
• Produces content for the Executive Financial Reporting (EFR)
• Contributes to briefs and responses to questions from parliamentarians and other agencies
• Performs analysis tasks relating to the department’s financial performance as required
• Supports any change management exercises that the department may undertake

You are an experienced accountant or Finance Officer with a strong understanding of budgeting. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with very good reading ability.

Candidates should also possess curiosity and eagerness to learn, accompanied by strong research skills and time management skills. Attention to detail and numeracy, coupled with the ability to understand and apply financial and budget management policies, are essential.

Prior experience with TM1 is preferred, but a willingness and capacity to learn budget systems is equally valued.
