AQUACULTURE TECHNICIAN – Nursery

The Company One is a state of the art marine finfish hatchery in tropical Cairns producing high-quality grouper fingerlings that are supplied to facilities in Australia and internationally. We have an exciting opening for someone skilled in RAS operation and nursery fingerling production to be part of a dedicated team undertaking commercial fingerling production of a range of tropical grouper species. Appointment level is dependent on experience and qualifications.

The Key Duties are to:

• Work within a dedicated team maintaining fingerlings and coordinating shipments to domestic and international customers.
• Become proficient in the operation and maintenance of RAS and maintenance of high biosecurity.
• Adhere to SOP’s and ensure a high standard of science is maintained.
• Undertake assigned areas of finfish research and production as determined by management.
• Participate in scheduled weekend roster covering Nursery and Broodstock, on-call roster and after-hours work as required.
• Current C-class license.

To determine your suitability for the role, you will be assessed on the following key capabilities:

• Demonstrated expertise in RAS and marine finfish husbandry.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of aquaculture with reference to the culture of marine finfish. 
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrating an ability to interact effectively with other staff.
• Ability to problem solve and prioritise tasks.
• Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.

Mandatory Requirement/Special Conditions

Relevant university qualifications or experience in aquaculture, or other relevant discipline.

Australian citizen or existing right to work in Australia.
