An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Arborist / Leading Hand to join our business in the Macedon Ranges, approximately 1 hour north of Melbourne CBD. In this role you will lead a team of experienced arborists, grounds crew and apprentices to deliver safe, productive tree work for our private, commercial and government clientelle.
THE CANDIDATE
Our ideal candidate is a solutions-focused climbing Arborist / Leading Hand with a strong work ethic who enjoys leading a team and working on immaculate trees in a highly renowned area.
Salary: $80,000 - $90,000
Skills/Experience
- The position requires a good understanding of mathematics and physics to bring tree limbs safely to the ground using a variety of basic machines.
- Communications skills are necessary to clearly give instructions to assistants during work processes.
- It requires physical strength to perform the job. In particular, good upper-body strength to operate the heavy equipment and saws used on the jobs.
- Ability to work within the framework of a tree from the bucket of a cherry picker, or as a climber
- Planning and organisational skills
- Ability to diagnose and undertake basic mechanical and equipment repairs.
- Basic computer/electronic device skills
- Lifting and carrying/dragging branches and logs (lifting)
- Feeding branches into woodchopper (lifting and twisting)
- Holding and operating chainsaws
- Holding ropes and lowering logs or branches to the ground (rigging)
- Manual tasks for extended periods of time (standing, walking, dragging, lifting, cutting).
- Standing for extended periods of time
- Holding hand tools above head (infrequent)
- Climbing (lifting body and tools) whilst attached to rope and other devices
- Moving around tree canopy
- Operating from an EWP (Elevated Work Platform) - holding tools, branches, and logs
- Manage the job site and crew.
- Ensure OH&S obligations and requirements are met and followed
- Manage and delegate crew to use machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Climb, prune, rig and remove a variety of complex trees as required.
- Use specialised knowledge and equipment to remove fallen, storm-damaged or unwanted trees.
- Use of hand and power tools to prune, dead wood, hedge and remove and prune trees, including but not limited to chainsaws, tree trimmers etc.
- Operate cherry picker, truck, chipper, stump grinder and any additional equipment as required.
- Install bracing systems, as necessary, to help trees remain structurally sound.
- Oversee the maintenance of equipment.
- Lift and carry/drag branches and logs
- Feed branches into woodchipper
- Hold and operate chainsaws
- Hold ropes and lowering logs or branches to the ground (rigging)
- Climb whilst attached to rope and other devices
- Operate from an EWP (Elevated Work Platform) - holding tools, branches, and logs
- Liaise with clients as required.
- Train staff
MR, or greater, drivers license
Cert III of Arboriculture or equivalent
Desirable qualifications:
