About the role
The Art Director is responsible for working closely with the Creative Director to maintain the overall graphic design of both the magazine and all of marie claire’s affiliated channels under the direction of the Editor. Marie Claire is Australia’s leading fashion brand with a focus on luxury, fashion, features, beauty and lifestyle. Graphic design plays a critical role in the success of the brand and must reflect the premium nature of the brand and its clients.
This position must also drive the digital delivery of our design, from images on site to social posts, tiles and videos – this is an omni-channel role and driving the digital footprint of marie claire is KEY. At times you will also design for Marie Claire Lifestyle, MC’s twice-yearly one-shot, and ELLE magazine, which also has a limited-edition release. It is the Art Director’s job to maintain and develop the brand’s luxury/fashion legacy by employing best practice standards and continuously evolving the design of the magazine.
Duties
- Develop creative concepts for digital and the magazine and assist the Creative Director to oversee all design and layouts to ensure a cohesive vision across all channels.
- Liaise and collaborate with wider business, such as marketing and commercial, to develop brand concepts and assets.
- Drive digital design identity of both Marie Claire and ELLE, from imagery, collages and videos to social assets.
- Work with key stakeholders to bring shoot vision to life by working closely with the editorial team, photographers, stylists, etc.
- Collaboration is key! Work closely with the digital, fashion, beauty, features and lifestyle teams to develop visually compelling social/site assets, layouts and cover concepts.
Skills and experience
We are looking for a team player who has strong communication and problem solving skills and is passionate about the future of this global brand.
- 7+ years design experience, including magazine production experience.
- Extensive experience in design programs, eg: InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, video
- High level design and typography skills
- Creative thinker with the ability to balance commercial and editorial requirements
- Experience with ContentStation and InSite preferred.
