Artificial Intelligence (Ai) Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Research Scientist, AI Engineer to join our Research team.

You will deliver on the design, implementation, and application of advanced bioimage processing pipelines, focusing on cell and tissue image analysis to support pre-clinical studies. You will work both independently and collaboratively with life scientists, data scientists, bioinformaticians, statisticians, and I&T professionals to deliver high-quality scientific outcomes on time and to support global project portfolio objectives. You will contribute to software product evaluations and support the adoption of advanced and generative AI in R&D.

You will contribute to process innovation and platform capability development internally and with external partners. You will help define use cases and project delivery plans with your manager and stakeholders.

Reporting to the Senior Scientist, Image Analytics & AI, you will develop solutions for problems and challenges in globally distributed projects with well-defined scope and outcomes. As an analysis subject matter expert (SME), you will work with life scientists to advise on experimental design, analysis methodologies, and data interpretation. You will understand or learn relevant aspects of the underlying biology, and you will present on methods development and biological analysis results internally and at relevant scientific events.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• Master’s or PhD in Science or Engineering, or experience in a relevant discipline.
• Minimum 3 years' computational experience with training in a relevant technical discipline e.g., computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Python programming, experience with high-performance computing platforms, and familiarity with R and Java programming.
• Experience with digital histology analysis and working with whole-slide image data
• Theoretical background in deep learning and image processing methodologies, and building and validating machine learning models in a computer vision setting
• Applied knowledge in computer vision libraries (such as PyTorch, Keras, TensorFlow, Scikit-Image) and data analysis libraries
• Experience in independently planning, leading, and delivering on research projects

Desirable Experience:

• Experience working in a Unix-like and high-performance computing environment on-premises or in the cloud using Python, R, or other scientific computing languages
• Knowledge of generative AI and foundation models
• Experience with spatial omics or integration of imaging data with other sequencing technologies
• Familiar with foundational concepts in human or animal biology
