What you'll be doing

The Assertive Community Clinician in Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) will provide extended hours consultancy, clinical coordination, advice and assessment where appropriate to clients under 18 presenting in a number of different settings across STG and TSH catchment area, experiencing acute or complex Mental Health concerns with the aim of reducing hospital presentations and admissions.
The Assertive Community Clinician is required to deliver Assertive Outreach, providing specialist Mental Health Services and tertiary consultation to children and young people in community settings including schools, youth accommodations, homes and other community settings. The Assertive Outreach Clinician will also provide this service within a CAMHS service.
The Assertive Community Clinician in CAMHS will facilitate, implement and evaluate care management pathways for patients with complex health needs who are at risk of admission to hospital. By identifying and developing relations with community partners to facilitate pathways to appropriate services.
If you are an overseas qualified Social Worker, you are required to have your qualifications assessed by the AASW to meet the position criteria.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

Selection Criteria: * Social Worker or Occupational Therapist qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award Current full registration with AHPRA and/or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer; Registered Nurse with a minimum 5 years full time equivalent post qualification experience with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in Mental Health with postgraduate nursing qualifications relevant to the field in which he/she is appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.; Snr Psychologist with recognised 4 year degree in Psychology, along with full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and min 8 years’ experience post full registration.

  • Extensive experience in the provision of child, adolescent and youth Mental Health Services and demonstrated experience in crisis intervention work and assertive case management, including Mental Health assessment, treatment and management of adolescents with Mental Health issues with high levels of acuity and risk.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in using evidence-based family and individual intervention models to support children, adolescents, young people and their carers to engage in appropriate Mental Health care in the community.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, consultation and negotiation skills with the ability to develop and refine strategic relationships.
  • Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff and the ability to manage change
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer programs.
  • Unrestricted current NSW drivers licence.
