About the Role
The Assistant Commissioner Custodial Operations reports to the Deputy Commissioner Adult Male Prisons and will assume a pivotal role in providing leadership in the management of adults in the justice system and exhibit a commitment to integrity and personal learning.
This role manages and provides leadership to Prison Superintendents. The position holder is directly accountable for strategic outcomes of prisons, workcamps and prison industries, including the delivery of adult diversion and rehabilitation programs, health, and education services.
The incumbent must demonstrate a capacity to establish cross agency approaches as well as to build and sustain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and community groups.

  • A statement no more than three (3) pages addressing the following criteria with examples to support your claim:
  • Lead adaptively: Substantial experience at a Superintendent level or equivalent in order to provide contemporary, and strategic leadership of prison operations, and to be able to adjust leadership style in different contexts.
  • Lead collectively: Build and maintain stakeholder and community partnerships and facilitate opportunities for shared thinking.
  • Deliver on high leverage areas: Demonstrated ability to identify priorities, pursue objectives with tenacity and capitalise on opportunities in order to enhance service delivery in the face of challenges.
  • Role Specific: Substantial senior management experience and a proven track record of success in managing a range of compliance and change management initiatives in a highly regulated organisation.
All remaining Essential selection criteria will be assessed at a later stage in the recruitment process.
