About Our Opportunity
Sitting within the Wealth and Capital Markets (W&CM) Platform, this Assistant Fund Accountant is primarily focused on providing support to the management of the Australian Unity W&CM finance and accounting functions in respect of Managed Funds, Property and Mortgage.
The ideal candidate will hold a continuous improvement mind-set as well as identify and contribute to the streamline and elevation of policies, processes, procedures, tools and templates to support the platforms customer ambitions.
What You Will Do
Prepare daily bank and GL reconciliations for Australian Unity Funds management application and redemption accounts as well as investment bonds application and redemption accounts.
Investigate and clear reconciliation items within required timeframes and escalate where appropriate.
Preparation of banking files for both internal trust and external Custodians.
Reconciliation and ongoing maintenance/remittance of Unclaimed Monies account.
Journal posting and reconciliation of bank account and ledger post Australian Unity distributions.
Monthly process to verify rebates prepared by the Custodian
Calculation of ad hoc rebates for institutional clients and organize payment.
Assist with daily unit pricing (Managed Investment Schemes)
Assist in resolving any cash breaks between registry and custody
Maintain spreadsheet to calculate daily fee accrual and track against what’s provided as part of the daily unit price.
Assist with half year and end of year financial statements preparation (Managed Investment Schemes)
Assist to complete RG97 fee calculations for internal and external use
Assist with the preparation and lodgment of ASIC 491 forms and monthly/quarterly BAS
Assist in the implementation of automated reconciliations tools.
Ensure processes are continually reviewed and enhanced so that they are efficient, effective, and relevant for the Fund Accounting (MIS) function
Effective working relationships established with key stakeholders within the Wealth & Capital Markets Platform and with key external stakeholders, including Custodian, Registry and Auditors
What we are looking for
Experience in a similar assistant accountant role in a large organisation
A finance/commerce/accounting degree
Strong Excel skills
Previous experience in reconciliation and unit pricing for Managed Investment Schemes preferred
Journal Posting experience preferred
Working towards CPA/CA qualification preferred but not essential
