Who are we looking for? 

An accomplished, motivating, legal professional, eager for the next challenge in their career. The successful applicant will support internal, multi-disciplinary clients, within a committed, dynamic and encouraging work environment. 

Reporting to General Counsel – APAC and as part of an engaged, collaborative, supportive yet fast-paced legal team, you will:

  • Assist Commercial Managers, Project Directors and technical leadership with the review and negotiation of contracts and other legal documents with a view to achieving “best for GHD” outcomes.
  • Review, negotiate and draft a wide range of commercial contracts, including consultancy contracts in a range of contexts, such as design and construct, design only, alliancing and pure consultancy (or sub-consultancy) services for major infrastructure projects.
  • Provide strategic risk management advice on:
  • Manage claims and disputes in the region in accordance with GHD process, including the engagement and management of external counsel, developing defence and resolution strategies, making recommendations.
  • Support the Regional General Manager and Region Leadership team. 
  • Support the General Counsel - APAC and as part of the APAC Legal Leadership team implement the Region Legal Business Plan.
  • Provide legal training to non-legal technical staff; be readily available for contractual and risk discussions and coaching.
  • challenging projects with higher risk, and more complex projects in the areas of employment, privacy and contract law, intellectual property law, commercial disputes and litigation management.
  • legislative compliance, internal policies and some corporate governance matters.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Australian Practising Certificate with ideally 10+ years PQE, preferably with a top or mid tier law firm or relevant in-house experience.
  • Strong commercial contracting negotiation skills - ideally in an engineering or construction law environment 
  • An ability to identify solutions taking into account legal, commercial and project considerations.
  • The ability to influence others with an optimistic, can-do attitude.
  • Experience in varied procurement formats, contract reviews and drafting of complex projects.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong team mindset, displaying GHD’s values and behaviours.
  • Passion for mentoring and team development - knowledge transfer of legal and contractual risk. 
  • Experience in a geographically dispersed team.
