About the opportunities

Aboriginal Initiatives Team

Our Aboriginal Initiatives (AI) team assist the EPA to effectively engage with Aboriginal communities and improve its understanding of Aboriginal cultural values to strengthen its regulatory role to protect the environment. The AI team are hiring an Assistant Project Officer.

Do you have lived experience in understanding Aboriginal cultural values, knowledges, and have a passion for caring for Country.
You will work collaboratively with colleagues in the EPA, Aboriginal organisations, government and non-government stakeholders. You don’t need to be an expert in environmental matters and regulation but are curious to learn more about what the NSW EPA does to protect human health and caring for Country. If you’re a team player, sound communicator, come and join our deadly team.

This is a targeted role under GSE Rule 26 and Aboriginal people are encouraged to apply.

Strategy & Policy division

We are also looking for talented and highly-motivated Assistant Policy Officers for the EPA’s Strategy and Policy Division.
You will be joining a high-performing and passionate team with a proven track record in delivering on the strategic priorities of the EPA and the NSW Government, and who are committed to supporting the EPA’s ambition of being a world class regulator.

About you

These are exciting opportunities to assist in developing and implementing policies and projects, guidance, strategic and innovative solutions to achieve effective environmental and human health outcomes for the people of NSW.
We welcome individuals with a diverse range of experience – both in and outside government policy. The successful applicant will ideally demonstrate:
• Assist in strategic policy development by preparing briefings and advice in response to Ministerial and Executive requests on a range of priorities including reform initiatives in regulatory, legislative and economic policy
• Assist in the review, evaluation and development of legislative reforms, policies and programs, tools and guidance to facilitate the delivery of transparent, consistent and accountable environmental regulations and policies in NSW
• Undertake research, analysis and writing to support the development of policy and legislative reforms
• Effective communication clearly conveying technical and complex information, verbally, written and visually
• Willing to go above and beyond with a hands-on and collaborative approach
• Passion and energy, working to deadlines and in an agile environment
