Assistant to Cultural Affairs - Embassy of Japan(Full Time position)
The Embassy of Japan in Australia is seeking a well-organised, responsible and creative person for the role of Assistant to Information and Cultural Affairs.
Major duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Handle the Embassy’s official social media accounts including drafting posts and editing photo and video content
- Update and maintain the Embassy’s website
- Speech writing in English
- Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders, such as media and tertiary institutions
- Promote Japan and Japanese government activities at public events, such as festivals, seminars, exchange fairs, and schools
- Organise events, including school visits, seminars, symposiums, cultural exchange events, and invitation programs to Japan
- Manage public inquiries relating to the Embassy’s Information and Cultural Section business (face-to-face, phone, and email)
- Provide support to Japanese delegations visiting Australia
- Undertake Master of Ceremony duties at Embassy events
- Assist with the Information and Cultural Section’s day-to-day activities
Requirements for this position include:
- Must have Australian citizenship, permanent residency or a similar visa to work in Australia
- Bachelor’s degree (a degree in communications and/or experience in digital marketing is preferred)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven experience in English
- Comprehensive computer skills to support and maintain the Embassy website and social media accounts and undertake digital editing tasks
- Strong organisation and planning skills
- The ability to multitask, work under pressure, organise and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated capacity to promote Embassy work ethics
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision and direction
It would also be advantageous if the applicant has:
- Experience handling official social media accounts for organisations promoting public awareness of its policies and activities
- Experience taking photos with a DSLR and using digital photo and video editing software (Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premier Elements)
- Japanese language ability is desired but not essential for applying for this position.
- Experience working in a Japanese office environment and an understanding of Japanese cultural sensitivities

A starting salary will be calculated commensurate with experience based on the salary scale of the Embassy.
