About the role

JOB TITLE: Associate Engagement Manager (NSW & ACT)

LOCATION: Sydney

ROLE: Full Time

REPORTS TO: National Engagement Manager (NSW & ACT)

DIRECT REPORTS: N/A

 

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The primary purpose of this role is to build relationships and engage with the philanthropic sector to help drive Philanthropy Australia’s (PA) effort to engage a larger and more diverse membership, inspire a new generation of giving and foster better approaches to giving as outlined in Philanthropy Australia’s 2022-2025 Strategic Plan. 

The role participates as a key member of the National Engagement team, reporting into the National Engagement Manager, alongside leading PA’s National New Generation of Giving Program (New Gen).

New Gen is a network for individuals in their 20s and 30s who want to make a difference. New Gen has been part of Philanthropy Australia since 2012 and has incubated some of Australia’s leading young philanthropists and social entrepreneurs. The network includes next generation family members, young professionals, social entrepreneurs and philanthropic and corporate foundation staff and trustees.

The role requires someone who has experience working with philanthropists and is excited about the role philanthropy plays in Australia. The person in this role will also need to have a particular interest in and passion for the next generation of philanthropy in Australia, and who is inspired by the impact they can have on the future of philanthropy through this program.

To be successful in this role, the person must be motivated by building relationships and making connections, enabling PA’s members to better leverage their giving.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Developing, managing and maintaining relationships with NSW and ACT members:

  • Deliver and administer a quality end-to-end experience for PA’s members, including meeting with members, responding to their needs and adding value through your knowledge of philanthropy in Australia
  • Lead the engagement and relationship management of not-for-profit members and potential members
  • Support business development to grow the membership base in NSW and ACT including developing strategies for prospecting, growing and renewing membership. Meet with prospects to articulate the value proposition of PA membership
  • Connect members through the delivery of quality member programs and services including Peer Networks
  • Contribute to the development of ideas for local networking opportunities and events in NSW and ACT
  • Lead on member event logistics and preparations in Sydney
  • Ensure member information and meetings are captured accurately in Salesforce and other systems

 

Developing and delivering the national New Generation of Giving Program (New Gen):

  • Lead PA’s national New Gen program, working closely with the New Gen co-chairs and committee to further develop PA’s New Gen strategy and services
  • Review the content of the program and develop opportunities to improve the value proposition to New Gen members
  • Engage existing members of the New Gen program through one-to-one meetings, events and the monthly New Gen newsletter
  • Develop opportunities to grow the New Gen program nationally
  • Lead networking opportunities and events nationally for New Gen
  • Design and deliver the New Gen study tour (in the years this occurs)

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Strong knowledge of philanthropy and the not-for-profit sector
  • Experience in a foundation or fundraising role working directly with philanthropists (experience with next generation philanthropists desirable)
  • A passion for philanthropy, with particular interest in the next generation of philanthropy
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills; including the ability to inspire others
  • Demonstrated excellent stakeholder management
  • Ability to be proactive in developing and fostering relationships
  • Strong project management skills including planning, delivering on timelines, managing stakeholders and being outcome driven
  • Proficient user of Salesforce or other CRM
  • Highly developed written and oral communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Ability to prioritise an ever-changing workload and juggle competing demands
  • Motivated self-starter with management experience, including the ability to work as part of a small national team

 

As this is a role supports a national program of membership engagement including events, the ability to work outside of normal hours, and travel occasionally may be required.
