Western Health is the major healthcare provider to one of the fastest growing - and most diverse -regions of Australia. This is a fixed-term position reporting to the Chair in Nursing (Western Health Partnership).

The Associate Professor in Nursing (Western Health) will be responsible for leading a research program in the area of nursing, providing leadership in research and capacity building at Western Health and Deakin and is accountable for enhancing the research profile of nursing within each organisation.

Your key responsibilities will include:
Leading major, highly productive, high-quality, research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs
Widely communicating outputs to discipline(s), other sectors and the community, including nationally and internationally
Supporting and making major contribution to development and delivery of the university’s industry partnership agenda and priorities
Leading applications for external competitive and other funding with sustained effort and success
Demonstrating sustained and expanding track record of timely delivery of outcomes for industry partners, with national and growing international recognition
Developing and leading major projects of innovation and translation into policies, frameworks, strategy, priority setting and other outcomes to create positive impact
Providing effective mentoring to HDR students, ECRs and MCRs to support professional and career development and employability
Supervising and advising staff undertaking research to build capability
Producing conference and seminar papers and publications from research undertaken
Supervising honours and postgraduate students and other research fellows who are working on projects within the Associate Professor of Nursing (Western Health)’s field of expertise, ensuring timely completions and quality of results
Supervising research support staff involved in the staff member’s research and ensure implementation of all relevant University policies
Contributing to teaching in relation to his/her research project(s) and/or area of expertise
Be responsible for the oversight and financial management of grants
Sit on executive level committees at Western Health
Supporting and collaborating with the Chair in Nursing in delivering high quality research by managing teams and projects that align with Western Health and Deakin University prioritised research areas.

Key selection criteria for this role:
Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a registered nurse
PhD in a relevant discipline
Internationally recognised research reputation underpinned by publications in high quality journals, and exhibitions where relevant to the discipline
Success in obtaining and timely completion of competitive external research grants
Successful engagement with research, community, industry and government to enhance the national and international standing of the Faculty
Demonstrated ability to build strong research partnerships
Demonstrated ability to build research skill and capacity in clinical staff
Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative work teams and to work effectively as a member and leader of an interdisciplinary team
Demonstrated high level organisational skills including the demonstrated ability to manage research projects to completion and meet competing deadlines
Demonstrated ability to understand and work collaboratively within a health care organisation and university environment
Experience in the supervision of undergraduate honours and research higher degree students
Significant knowledge of workplace health and safety principles, to ensure the safety of self, colleagues and students
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact well with research, teaching, clinical staff and students
Demonstrated excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills
