Reporting to the Head of Discipline, this role involves fostering excellent relationships across the Faculty, University, and industry partners. As an education and research-focused position, you will develop an active scholarship program, seek funding (in alignment with our ), participating in , conduct research, publish findings, and coordinate and deliver units. You will also supervise honours, masters, and PhD-level research projects and establish connections with domestic and international stakeholders.You will engage in curriculum development for the and course in Optometry and Vision Science, delivery in a team-based environment, enhance student experience, and provide robust student support. This is a unique opportunity to advance scholarly work in Vision Science and Optometry and contribute to the growth of optometry at one of the Times Higher Education Top 20 Young Universities of the World.Key responsibilities include:
  • Contribute to research-led teaching,
  • Provide leadership in teaching and/or research within the Discipline and Faculty.
  • Undertake unit and course coordination as required.
  • Promote and support excellence in disciplinary and interdisciplinary activities/scholarship.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key external and professional stakeholders.
  • Collaboratively develop curricula with Optometry colleagues ensuring accreditation requirements are met.
  • Provide student support and guidance.
  • Undertake continual professional development in education innovation.
  • Engage in and enhance a track record of collaborative, multidisciplinary research through publications and grants.
  • Attract higher degree research students and provide high-quality research supervision.
About you:The successful candidate will have:
  • PhD in Optometry or a related field.
  • Registration with AHPRA as an optometrist in Australia (desirable not essential).
  • Endorsement to prescribe ocular therapeutic drugs in Australia (desirable not essential).
  • Experience teaching with expertise in Optometry and Vision Science, (ideally within optics, low vision, binocular vision, and/or environmental optometry).
  • Capacity and commitment to contribute to traditional and flexible modes of academic program development and delivery, potentially including online formats.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with high-quality and high-impact outcomes, including publications and grants.
  • Experience in recruiting and supervising higher degree research students.
  • Experience in mentoring junior academics.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with the profession and industry and attract funding.
