This role is providing supports to an individual living with autism and complex needs. The individual is supported every day with 2:1 supports. The person being supported is living in their own home, on a small rural property, and is supported by members of a small team which includes members of the family.
This position is working with a close-knit team of people dedicated to providing excellent service and support.
In a nutshell – Be reliable, turn up and be ready to provide respectful and consistent support - not just to the person being supported - but every member of the team.
The framework we stand by is the MANDT system. This training will be provided to the successful applicant. We believe that best support can only be provided in an environment where there are good solid relationships in place. Where people can say with confidence - in this place and with these people - I am safe.
Persons in this role will work within a team, under the supervision of a practice coach and other professionals. We use and teach the principles of positive behaviour support and person-centered active support.
Day to day duties will include supporting the individual to work their way through ADLs (Activities of daily living), including morning and evening routines, meal times etc and to prepare and enjoy a range of both table top activities (craft, puzzles etc) and outdoor adventure and leisure activities (bike riding, swimming, bushwalking, travelling etc).
There will be times when things are not quite right and people providing support will need to engage specific strategies (for self-help and calming) and support the person to work through those challenging times and emotions that can rise as a result.
Applicants for this position must be willing and able to work some evenings until 10pm, sleepovers and some weekends.
