SEEKING BICULTURAL HEALTH FACILITATOR/S TO JOIN OUR TEAM

About the position
The Bicultural Health Facilitator work closely with select multicultural groups to, build their capacity to engage confidently with the health services sector; while identifying strategies using the experiences of communities to inform and educate the health services sector.

Community Engagement:

  1. Connect with multicultural communities to understand their experiences with the health services sector; and contribute towards the development of tools and resources to assist health professionals improve service delivery to multicultural communities. 
  2. Provide incidental advocacy for clients experiencing complex health situations to navigate health system; while concurrently contributing to capacity building capacity of health services.
  3. Assist with data collection relevant towards improving multicultural health. 
  4. Develop and maintain good professional working relationships with all members of the team, with the broader Melaleuca Services teams, stakeholders and clients. 

COMMUNITY CAPACITY BUILDING - Collaborate internally with Health Services team, Learning and Development and Multicultural Services team to:

  1. Provide input into design of workshops and resources that will benefit the health sector and multicultural communities to generate greater inclusion and quality of services to CaLD communities taking into account language barriers, poor health literacy and cultural humility when considering cultural practices.
  2. Deliver approved interactive sessions/workshops with multicultural communities which build their confidence and capacity to engage with health services. 
  3. Always demonstrate cultural humility as well as acting as a positive role model for the multicultural communities in relation to interactions with the health sector.

  • Start date 4 March 2024
  • 12month fixed term contract
  • Part time and full time options can be considered 
  • Business hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm
  • Based in Darwin, working across our other sites in Casuarina and Palmerston site as needed

Selection Criteria - essential:

  1. Tertiary qualification in a community work discipline with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a support provision role. 
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of community services.
  3. Experience in working with multicultural communities. 
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and advanced interpersonal skills.
  5. Is computer literate in the Microsoft suite of programs and an experience in Client Management Software.
  6. Ability to maintain high level, comprehensive documentation (including case notes), reporting, and design of internal processes.

Desirable:

  1. Knowledge and understanding of trauma informed practice frameworks.
  2. Knowledge of local services.
  3. Experience using translating and interpreting services.
  4. First Aid and Mental Health First Aid Certificate.

Licences/clearances - essential:

  1. Current Police Clearance.
  2. Current valid NT Ochre Card (Working with Children clearance).
  3. Current valid Cass C driver’s licence.
  4. Australian Citizenship, Residency Status or Visa allowing unrestricted work rights.
