The Role
We are seeking a full-time Bioresources Technician Level 1 to work with laboratory animals, including rodents and zebrafish, in a medical research environment.
As a Bioresources Technician Level 1, you will work as part of a skilled and dedicated animal care team to provide support for research groups.
In particular, Bioresources Technicians are responsible for providing professional care for all animals, where mice are the major species, but also involving duties in the aquaria housing zebrafish. Tasks include sample collection, breeding of mice and fish, routine maintenance of the facility and strong communication to research groups.
This is a full-time role that includes some weekends and public holidays which is required to ensure the continuity of care for animals in the facility.
About You
- Have an understanding of research animal husbandry, handling, housing and breeding.
- Have an understanding of research animal colony maintenance and can provide guidance to researchers.
- Able to understand and apply a number of different work practices and technical skills across a Bioresources facility.
- Understand how to prioritise workload/workflow.
- Able to communicate effectively with staff across a range of levels, including researchers.
- Have strong computer literacy.
- Able to assist junior staff by providing guidance and advice.
- Able to work autonomously.
Qualifications and experience
- Completion of a formal certificate and / or relevant work experience of at least 18 months.
- Competent in all aspects of Bioresources Attendant Level 2.
