About the Role

Are you an early bird who loves sharing local stories, keeping their finger on the pulse, and having a bit of fun along the way? The Breakfast Presenter is on air bright and early to help listeners get up on the right side of the bed, letting them know what’s happening and telling them stories they’ll be talking about for the rest of the day.

Based in Albany, in WA’s Great Southern region, you’ll be surrounded by stunning coastline, beaches,  forests, mountain ranges, rolling pasture and farmland. This region has a diverse mix of places, people, and issues which you’ll cover on a daily, weekday Breakfast program.

You’ll also be part of an incredibly hardworking team who collaborates to get these stories out to the rest of the country on the ABC news website, on TV, national radio programs and social media.

We want someone with a nose for a good story and desire to tell that across platforms.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Putting a live radio program to air
  • Finding original and distinctive stories from your local community
  • Pitching and planning new ideas to get more people tuning into your show and for the ABC's digital audience.
  • Supporting your audience through emergencies, working with your team on rolling out the Local Emergency Coverage plan

About You

Ever been told you could talk under water with a mouth full of marbles? Do you have an endless curiosity about the people and places around you? Have you ever wanted to be paid to talk to people? This could be the perfect job for you.

The right person for this role will be able to plan ahead to find unique and interesting stories, but also be able to quickly get across a story that’s landed on their lap moments before being on air, and interviewing someone about it.

We’re after someone who gets a rush working to the clock, and who can get up to speed and master the studio tech to get the brekky show to air each morning.

In this key role, you will also bring:

  • A love of making exciting radio.
  • Great story judgement.
  • Basic experience in operating a radio studio, with an eagerness to know all the ins and outs of getting a show to air.
  • An understanding of stories and issues in WA's Great Southern broadcast region.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.
