An opportunity has become available within BreastScreen NSW Northern Sydney and Central Coast (NSCC) for a highly skilled health practitioner who has a passion to provide high quality health care to women. BreastScreen NSW NSCC is seeking someone who has a commitment to Women’s Health, strong advocacy skills and the ability to lead and support a team.
The successful applicant will be a member of the Management Team and actively contribute to the delivery of a high-quality health program to over 56,000 women across both the Northern Sydney and Central Coast Local Health Districts.

What you'll be doing
The Senior Counsellor is responsible for managing a counselling service for the BreastScreen NSW Northern Sydney and Central Coast (NSCC) program which provides care for approximately 56,000 women across 7 sites and 2 assessment clinic venues, providing a high-quality service that meets the National Accreditation Standards of BreastScreen Australia.
The Senior Counsellor will actively contribute to the overall management of the Service, along with the Director and the other members of the Management Team. Additionally, they will contribute to the BreastScreen NSW NSCC Business and Strategic Plans.
The Senior Counsellor will manage the Counselling Team and provide necessary direction and support needed for a team working in often challenging situations and constantly breaking bad news. The team works as a close collaborative unit that requires robust communication.
The Senior Counsellor will possess specialised high level knowledge particularly in relation to breast cancer and breast disease and have highly developed interpersonal skills The Senior Counsellor will also support clients throughout the assessment process, including support for clients diagnosed with breast cancer.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a health-related discipline, that includes a counselling component.
  • Sound understanding of clinical aspects of breast disease, breast cancer and the principles of population-based screening.
  • Sound understanding of the psychological impact of a diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and demonstrated experience in working with clients in a health setting who are dealing with stressful and emotional issues.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and ability to work independently making safe, appropriate and informed decisions.
