About us: Benchmark Canteens and Catering are a family-owned business within the Retail Food Industry. With our main focus being operating school canteens, we also provide specialised catering services for events and kids' cooking demonstrations. Due to the expansion of our business, we are seeking committed and reliable Canteen Assistants and Supervisors to join our friendly and flexible team of dedicated staff. 

These positions are on a casual basis, according to a weekly roster. During school terms, start times vary from 6:30am to 11:00am, with finish times between 1:30pm and 2:00pm, (as a guide). Successful applicants will need to be available between 2 and 5 days per week (Monday – Friday) during school terms. Additional work may be required during school holiday periods. Wages are in accordance with the NSW Fast Food Industry Award, level 1 – 3, depending on position and experience.

Canteen/Catering Assistant Positions:

Responsibilities:

• Day-to-day operation of the school canteen, including over the counter service to students and teachers
• Food preparation and handling
• Cash handling and Eftpos machine use
• Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene throughout the canteen area, including washing up, cleaning and sterilising 
• Stock replenishment and rotation
• Assist with catering functions

Successful applicants require the following:

• Proven ability to be flexible and adaptive within a fast-paced environment
• High-level initiative, time management and organisational skills 
• Be a team-player, working collaboratively with co-workers, school staff and students
• Willingness to clean and work in an efficient manner
• Experience with Quick maths, eftpos and window service
• Enthusiastic, friendly and customer-focused attitude   
• Current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
• Current First Aid Certificate
• Excellent personal presentation and hygiene 
• Excellent communication skills
• Understand the importance of privacy, confidentiality of the business and its customers and exercise discretion
• Previous experience within a similar role is desirable.

Supervisory Positions:

Reporting directly to the Business Owner, additional responsibilities include:

• Supervise, mentor and train staff in kitchen operations, food preparation and safe food handling techniques in accordance with health & hygiene regulations
• Manage and maintain appropriate food stocks and catering supplies 
• Maintain reporting records
• Ensure that the cleaning and maintenance of the canteen and its utensils is carried out to a high standard in order to comply with the Australian Food Safety Assessment.

Requirements:

• Qualifications and/or relevant experience in food handling/food hygiene standards and the ability to manage issues relating to food intolerances 
• Ability to work independently whilst also leading a team, ensuring an effective and cost-efficient service to the students and staff
• Hold or willing to obtain a Food Safety Supervisors certificate and follow guidelines diligently 
• Knowledge of Flexischools app is an advantage
