The Opportunity

Reporting through to the General Manager, the primary focus of this position will be to expertly apply your experience, technical and operational knowledge of forestry, biodiversity and carbon development to lead and grow Sumitomo Forestry Group’s initiatives in this space across Australia.

To start out, you will be heading up the establishment of the first stage of our new forestry site in East Gippsland.  With our target date for planting quickly approaching, you will need to hit the ground running and invest significant time at the site and with key stakeholders to deliver successfully.

Key to your success will be your ability to project manage effectively in a process driven, highly structured and well-developed multinational corporate environment.  Of equivalent importance, will be your ability to communicate, collaborate and build highly effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders from a diverse range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

As you work towards establishing the first stage at our forestry site in East Gippsland, you will also work in parallel to plan stage 2 of the property [working through approvals and ensuring the maximum potential of the site is realised].

Beyond the Gippsland Project, you will also identify further potential forestry sites for the business across Australia and develop a pipeline of sites suitable for forestry, biodiversity and carbon development projects in the future.

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years experience working as a Carbon and Forestry Manager, or within a similar position that specifically involves leading forestry, biodiversity and carbon development projects;
  • A passion for sustainability, environmental conservation & regenerative practices;
  • Exceptional project management skills and experience project managing in a process driven and highly structured corporate environment;
  • Standout communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills and experience working with internal and external stakeholders from a diverse range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities; and,
  • A natural alignment to the Sumitomo Forestry values detailed above.

Tertiary qualifications [Bachelor Degree or higher] in Forestry, Environmental Science, Planning, Agriculture and/or Soil Science will also be highly regarded.
