About the Role:As the Carbon Originator, you will be responsible for leading the negotiation of both long term and short term commercial agreements for carbon. Support may be required occasionally with renewables and energy storage transactions. These transactions will align with AGL's wholesale portfolio value and risk management objectives and contribute to our Climate Transition Action Plan. Origination combines a broad range of skills across business development, negotiation, commercial, project development, corporate finance and critical analysis of market dynamics. Transactions will involved buying and selling of commodities through both physical and derivative agreements, with deal sizes up to $2B and durations of up to 15 years.What you'll be doing:Originating short and long term carbon offset opportunities to fulfill AGL's strategic objectives to transition to a low carbon portfolioLead smaller contract negotiations or assisting the lead negotiator on large transactions relating to carbon offset agreements, wholesale carbon customer sales contracting and a range of other contracting arrangements that will fulfill AGL's strategic objectives, create value over the long term and manage future portfolio riskManaging relationships with market participants, customers, project developers and market operatorsProviding guidance to other teams within Integrated Energy, Environmental Energy Trading Team, Power Trading and Treasury Risk, Corporate Development and Finance in relation to carbon origination activities, including influencing and collaborating across business unitsLead complex and bespoke negotiations, document transactions and implementation of commercial arrangements. Typical transactions will range from $5m to $75mDevelop business cases to support transactions with the support of the analytical teamManaging supply agreements existing in the portfolio, including establishing processes to enforce contract specifications and resolve conflict where breaches or non-compliance occur.Identify and develop opportunities for AGL to expand its activities in existing marketsSupport may be required occasionally with power and environmental transactions.About You: You will ideally have an existing network of strong relationships and a deep understanding of the carbon markets and contracting arrangements through your extensive experience in the commercial carbon sector.
