Job description

Our specialist cardiologist group, based in Spring Hill, with 6 other locations around Queensland, requires the assistance of a personal secretary to support the growth in practice of our interventional cardiologists.

This new role will be offered on a permanent full-time basis based at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, with some time spent at Greenslopes.

To be suitable for this role you will have a minimum of 2+ years’ experience as a specialist medical secretary working one on one with two doctors who are part of the group. 

The working environment is friendly, and team focused, conducive to providing the highest quality quaternary level patient care.

You will need to be highly motivated, organised and have great communication skills. You must have the ability to multi-task, prioritise workload and work well in a busy environment. Applicants must be able to work autonomously and within a team environment and possess a high degree of flexibility.

As the first point of contact and to the cardiologist, you will provide a high level of service for the patients, as well as those of the general clinic. We are looking for someone who understands the importance of caring for a doctor and for his patients and have the flexible to thrive in a busy environment. You will receive collegiate support and training from existing senior staff who have expert knowledge of the requirements of the role.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the cardiologist in general daily duties such as diary management, maintaining the smooth running of consultation sessions, preparing communications and ad hoc requests as required.
  • Scheduling complex patient appointments and procedures, triaging referrals, requiring fastidious attention to detail.
  • Answering incoming phone calls and emails in a professional manner.
  • Procedure bookings will require you to liaising with hospital admission staff, nursing staff and anaesthetists, arranging patient quotes and financial consent, as required.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a similar role.  
  • Reliability and flexibility of availability, as the hours of work may vary as dictated by the specialists’ requirements.
  • Experience using Health Track practice software a distinct advantage 
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to relate to all patients and third parties in a professional, supportive and efficient manner.
  • Excellent written, verbal and phone skills
  • A calm and measured manner, with the ability to adapt as circumstances require
