To be eligible for this position you must be PGY 4 + from February 2025

The Department of Cardiology at Canberra Hospital provides tertiary cardiology services to the ACT and Greater Southern NSW region. The department has 11 consultant cardiologists with three accredited Advanced Trainees in Cardiology. The Coronary Care Unit has 11 acute and 4 subacute beds with 3 chest pain evaluation unit beds. The department has dedicated clinical cardiology programs in acute cardiovascular care, echocardiography, cardiac CT, interventional cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology and heart function/pulmonary hypertension clinics.

Applications are sought for Registrar in Cardiology at Canberra Hospital and Health Services starting 7th February 2022. The position would suit candidates that have passed the written and clinical FRACP examination with ambition to pursue Advanced Training in Cardiology for 2023.

The successful candidate will undergo extensive training in clinical cardiology which includes management of patients in coronary care and chest pain evaluation unit, emergency department, general cardiology ward, outpatient cardiology clinics including heart function clinic, cardiology consultation and preadmission clinic. The candidate will also undergo training in basic echocardiography and stress testing. The candidate will be required to participate in the afterhours on call cardiology roster 1:4.

Duties:

Under limited direction of the Clinical Director you will:

  • Provide competent and efficient clinical management of patients of the Health Directorate under the supervision and direction of Cardiologists and Consultant Physicians. Clinical duties will include assessment and management of acute presentations, inpatient care, diagnosis and management of patients in outpatient clinics, consultations and attending and actively participating in clinical handover.
  • Participate in the supervision, training and professional development of junior medical staff, allied health professionals and medical students.
  • Participate in the afterhours on call roster for cardiology and medicine as rostered.
  • Contribute to clinical audit, departmental morbidity and mortality conference and participate in changes that improve quality and safety of patient care.
  • Comply with the policies and requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and the policies of the Health Directorate
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

·         General registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • An Australian MBBS medical degree or equivalent.

·         To be eligible for this position you must be PGY 4 + from February 2025

  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide

    Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

·         Demonstrate commitment to training and continuing professional development including participation in relevant teaching programs, activities, and feedback opportunities, involvement in research, and teaching of junior medical staff and/or medical students

  • FRACP Written and Clinical Exam (candidates without clinical exams in 2020 are eligible).
  • Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident
  • Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support Certificate.

·         The successful applicant will need to be available for occasional weekend and after-hours work.

·         Have an understanding of how the National Standards and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

·         Fulfil the responsibilities of this role as detailed in the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.

Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:

·         undergo a pre-employment Occupational Medicine assessment, screening & vaccination process.

·         Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

WHAT YOU REQUIRE

  1. Significant clinical experience in clinical internal medicine
  2. Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development including formal education and self-directed learning.
  3. Possess the professional and personal qualities required to develop into a skilled physician, including sound written and verbal communication skills.
  4.  Demonstrated ability to work cohesively in a team environment and conduct effective clinical handover.

5.    Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
