Great opportunity for a Cardiothoracic Fellow seeking an opportunity to support further cohesion and growth of the cardiothoracic surgery discipline at MQ Health
THE ROLE

Opportunity to be involved in various cutting-edge Cardiothoracic Surgical procedures, such as minimally invasive robotic surgery and transcatheter valvuloplasty.
Highly competitive salary, fixed term 12 month contract.
The Role
Cardiothoracic surgical services at MQ Health, alongside other flagship clinical programs such as Interventional Pulmonology and Structural Heart, have been growing over the last few years. With the imminent introduction of lung cancer screening, it is anticipated that Cardiothoracic services at MQ Health will continue to expand.
Alongside providing world-class inpatient and outpatient clinical care, the growing team of cardiothoracic surgeons at MQ Health is actively involved in clinical trials, education and innovation in this field. This provides the opportunity for prospective candidates to benefit from a wide range of experiences to help them in their career aspirations.
As part of MQ Health, the role is responsible for the assistance and provision of high-quality clinical assessment, management and consultation to inpatients and outpatients within the speciality of Cardiothoracic surgery at Macquarie University Hospital and Clinic. The role will also provide and participate in education, supervision and support to junior doctors in training and medical students. It also requires engagement in ongoing quality assurance and improvement activities at the discipline and program levels.
Key Accountabilities (not limited to)
Provide clinical service to patients of MUH and the clinics within the scope of practice granted by the Advisory Committee and approved by the Board.
Provide a specialist liaison and consultation service to patients in conjunction with the clinical supervisor as required by other accredited practitioners who provide medical care at or in connection with MUH.
Liaise and work effectively with allied health professionals involved in patient care, including the broader care team.
Promptly advise supervisors of any concerns regarding patient’s conditions etc.
Organise and participate in Discipline/Program Morbidity and Mortality meetings and other meetings deemed compulsory by supervisor[s] or the Director of Medical Services.
Participate in clinical quality activities – such as peer review, clinical practice audit, root cause analysis etc.
Participate in multidisciplinary clinical supervision, training and education in patient care environments.
In partnership with clinical supervisor[s] develop and implement a professional development, education and training plan.
About you
MQ Health is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated surgical trainee with significant interest and experience assisting cardiothoracic surgeries. Excellent communication skills and ability to foster a collaborative and efficient working environment are highly desirable attributes.

To Apply
To be considered for this position, you will demonstrate the below requirements in your CV and a 1-2 page cover letter:
MBBS or equivalent qualification and registration as a medical practitioner in Australia.
Specific interest and experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery
At least three years of post-graduate medical practice (PGY3+)
Either a Fellow of the Australasian College of Surgeons (preferred) or working towards
Proven commitment to education and research.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders, including patients and other health professionals.
Active [or eligible to be an active] Accredited Practitioner of MUH
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Knowledge of and commitment to continuous improvement, evidence-based practice and promoting a culture of safety, quality, innovation and best practice in clinical practice, teaching and research.
