About the Role

The Carer Coaching service provides free psycho-educational support for carers, helping them gain essential skills and resilience. Through coaching sessions, carers learn practical skills, self-awareness, and self-management, receiving comprehensive guidance and emotional support. This program aims to empower carers and enhance their well-being amidst caregiving challenges.
This is done through:

  • Carer Coaching and support: Ensuring Carer Coaching adheres to standards while reviewing Carer star™ assessments for program entry, making referrals, and collaborating with Care Planners for holistic carer service delivery.
  • Service Excellence: Providing exceptional, standards-aligned service while promptly responding to stakeholders, maintaining updated knowledge of available services, and delivering flexible assistance to ensure high satisfaction levels.
  • Operational Excellence: Ensuring operational consistency and compliance through policy adherence, offering continuous feedback for practice enhancement, maintaining data integrity, staying updated on support services, providing flexible service, and educating carers on liaising with service providers.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA 

Essential 

  • Empowering carers for independent decision-making.
  • Demonstrating empathy amid conflicting values.
  • Active listening without judgment.
  • High degree of emotional maturity and resilience
  • Understanding trauma-informed practices and fostering resilience.
  • Ability to set boundaries and to seek support when needed.
  • Effective communication with diverse stakeholders and proficiency in client documentation.
  • Intermediate to Advanced computer skills (Microsoft office & databases). 
  • ACT WWVP card (with NDIS activities if issued after July 2021) or willingness to obtain.
  • Up to date with COVID vaccination (minimum 3 doses required). 
  • Current Driver’s Licence (essential to undertake client meetings at locations other than the Holt office).

Desirable

  • An understanding of the carer role.
  • Experience in professional coaching.
  • Ability to articulate and share personal strategies for self-care, safety, and wellbeing Additional languages spoken.
  • Any other aspects that can support establishing rapport.
  • Knowledge of carer services and common support systems such as the NDIS, My Aged Care and the mental health services.

Coaches may come from a range of backgrounds and qualifications. These may include areas such as coaching / recovery coach, social work, psychology, mental health (e.g. Certificate 4 in Mental Health), health, education or allied mental health work.
