About the Role

St Vincent's Language Services department provides interpreters to Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients across all hospital sites to enable them to communicate with their health providers and access the hospital's services.

The classification ranges for this position vary from the below:

HS2 - HS21 ($33.78 - $36.50 per hour, plus casual loading)

HS3 - HS25 ($37.67 - $40.70 per hour, plus casual loading)

Your Contribution

You will be a NAATI certified interpreter and have extensive experience in health interpreting. Your duties include the provision of excellent and efficient interpreting for Chinese and Vietnamese speaking patients and working cooperatively in our dynamic staff team.

A current criminal history check, or willingness to obtain, is required for the position.

About the Department

Almost half of St Vincent's patients come from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background. Almost 20% of these require an interpreter to assist them to communicate with their healthcare provider. Language Services department provides:

  • Interpreting in over 80 languages

  • Translation of patient information

  • Training and Education

  • Participation to research

  • Recommendations of best practices
