The D’Orsogna family has been supplying quality hams, bacon and manufacturing a large range of smallgoods products for Australian domestic and export markets for more than 75 years.
This family owned business is located on the outskirts of Fremantle in Palmyra, Western Australia. It has another “state of the art” manufacturing operation in Melbourne, Victoria.
Since commencing business in 1949, the Company has steadily grown to become a leading brand in Western Australia’s food industry and the third largest national supplier of quality cooked meat and smallgoods products.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Category / Business Analyst position reports to D’Orsogna’s Senior Business Manager and works closely with the D’Orsogna Sales, Marketing and New Product Development teams.
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Category / Business Analyst will provide fact-based analysis and interpretations of sales data, market trends, consumer behavior and competitive activities in order to make recommendations for future commercial strategies.
This will include space management (shelf layout) processes, using key category metrics to enable D’Orsogna to clearly understand current category space management dynamics and to assist the company in making customer-level tactical business decisions.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement the processes required to create and present sound, supportable analysis of category management issues.
- Utilise Quantium data query tools to access and review data.
- Analyse merchandising program results to determine success and to recommend continuation, discontinuation or modifications to programs on the basis of historical results and competitive trends.
- Assist the sales and merchandising team with category performance analysis, promotional analysis, assortment and pricing analysis, space management analysis, market share performance and opportunity analysis.
- Recommend future actions for product positioning / launches / defence or attack on the basis of historical results, business macro trends and competitor activities.
- Track daily expenses and data for D’Orosgna’s key accounts.
- Participate in external key account presentations.
- Analyse external market research data from sources such as Nielsen.
- Participate in the annual budgeting process by producing the spreadsheets and documentation for the Sales and Marketing departments.
- Maintain cross-functional relationships with all levels and departments across the D’Orsogna business.
- Engage in continuous process improvement to streamline, simplify and automate repetitive reporting on routine data requests for the sales and merchandising team.
- Prioritise workload and successfully manage competing priorities and multiple stakeholder demands.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the D’Orsogna Sales & Marketing team in all functional areas related to space management.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:
- Relevant tertiary Business related qualifications.
- Previous FMCG category analysis experience will be well regarded. However, broader business analysis experience in other retail/consumer focused environments would also be relevant.
- Understanding of category management principles (preferable).
- Familiarity with data structure and query principles and processes.
- Ability to interpret data and translate into effective presentations and other sales materials.
- Numerate with advanced computer literacy and advanced skills in Excel spreadsheets and charting. Power BI
- Excellent PowerPoint Skills.
- Project Management Skills.
