Cemetery Workers and - Burials Team and Ground Staff

We are currently looking for labourers and Ground Staff to join The Metropolitan Cemeteries Board (MCB) on a casual basis. We currently have positions available at three locations; Pinnaroo, Karrakatta and Fremantle. 

Burials Team

You will work with a small team and use your knowledge of safe work practices in using mechanical tools and manual labour in the preparation of burial sites and the reinstatement of the site after interment. 

You will also work as part of a team, assisting in other operational activities including exhumations, cremations, garden/grounds care and maintenance and other activities. 

Ground Staff

This position is responsible for landscaping and maintenance of the cemetery sites and gardens which includes:

• Carry out general maintenance of garden/lawn areas and Grounds, ensuring a high standard in horticulture. 
• Raking, edging, mowing, weeding and sweeping, as directed. 
• Pruning, dead heading and general maintenance. 
• Participate in large landscaping projects as directed 
• Carry out basic maintenance of horticultural equipment following a competency test. 

Essential

• Knowledge of and ability to undertake safe work practices using correct manual handling techniques.
• Demonstrated experience in performing physical labour.
• Ability to work effectively in a Team and unsupervised.
• Effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills to relate respectfully with people at all levels and from different cultural backgrounds.
• Show judgement, initiative and common sense.
• An understanding of machinery operations and maintenance.
• Willingness to learn and develop computing skills appropriate to the role.
• C Class Driver’s Licence (manual).
• Commitment to integrity, honest and ethical behaviour and work practices.
• Current Police Check or willing to apply.

Desirable

• Experience in machinery operation 
• Previous landscaping experience
• Hold Safety (White) Card.
• First Aid Certification.
