About the Y Northern Territory (Y NT)

Whether it’s at Early Learning Centres, Outside Hours School Care, at their Recreation centres, Aquatic facilities, in their Youth Programs, Remote Pools program, or at the Hostel, the Y is committed to supporting Territorians to be connected, educated, resilient and healthy.

The Y NT has recently been appointed by the City of Darwin to manage the city’s three community pools at Parap, Nightcliff and soon to be opened Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre (CALC). The CALC offer’s three new pools for locals to take advantage of: a refurbished, Olympic size eight-lane lap pool, a new resort-style lagoon pool perfect for relaxation and a six-lane, 25-metre learn-to-swim pool.

The Opportunity

The Centre Manager is responsible for the overall provision of lifeguarding services at the CALC in particular managing the operational and financial performance, ensuring contract and Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations (GSPO) compliance and managing key stakeholder relationships.

The Centre Manager also has responsibility for staff management, financial planning and management and reporting, risk management, program and service delivery.

From time-to-time, the role may also be responsible for managing other sites at the direction of the Area Manager, Recreations & Aquatics – Top End.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop both long term and short-term goals for the successful operation of the facility (including program development and strategies for securing long-term contract).
  • Develop and present an annual Business Plan that aligns with the Recreation & Aquatics sector and the Y NT Group Business Plans, ensuring involvement from a range of sources, including staff and the community.
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual budgets.
  • Comply and operate the centre within budget parameters.
  • Drive a culture of supervision, support and motivation for all staffing levels.
  • Lead the implementation of effective systems for information dissemination and staff management.
  • Identify opportunities that will strengthen the Y Northern Territory’s relationship with key stakeholder groups.
  • Generate and follow up on any potential opportunities for increasing patronage to the Darwin CALC.
  • Ensure the centre's compliance with the National Law & Regulations.
  • Ensure effective management practices are implemented to mitigate risk and ensure the health and safety of workers, clients and visitors.
  • Develop and maintain networks and partnerships with relevant organisations and liaise with stakeholders and outside agencies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant industry experience in a management position or as a Duty Manager ready to move into a leadership position.
  • Highly developed observation and reporting skills.
  • Experience in managing staff.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety practices and the aquatic industry Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Well-developed communication and time management skills and the ability maintain rapport with persons from all levels within the organisation.
  • Proficiency in using business software and technology.
  • Current NT driver’s license.
  • Pool Lifeguard Certificate.
  • Pool Plant Operations Certificate or a willingness to obtain.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Valid Working with Children Clearance.
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check.
  • Current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003 or higher) and CPR qualifications.
